What to Expect

First Baptist Church has been a part of Thomson for more than 150 years. We love Thomson. We love all of our neighbors, no matter how long you've lived here. You have a place at First Baptist Church. Be our guest on Sunday morning (or for any of our events). We don't care what you're dressed like. We don't care if you've never been to church before. We don't care if you think your life is a mess right now. We're a community of imperfect people who have learned that God loves to forgive our failures and lead us to be more like Jesus. Come and join us!

If you've never been before, here's what to expect on your first visit:

  • Nice people who care about you and your family.

  • A casual atmosphere where you're encouraged to be yourself.

  • A safe but fun place for your kids to learn about God and themselves.

  • Powerful teaching from the Bible.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

  • What time should I get there?
You are invited to join us for coffee and donuts in the Atrium from 9:00-9:30AM. For Sunday School, arrive by 9:20 to allow yourself enough time to park, drop off any children, and get to your room (don't worry--we have greeters to help you get around). For the worship service, arrive by 10:35 to give yourself enough time to park, drop off children in the nursery, and get to the Sanctuary (again, we have greeters to show you where to go).
  • How should I dress?
At FBC Thomson, you'll see folks in business casual and casual attire. We want you to be comfortable, so wear what you would feel the most comfortable in in a worship service.
  • Where do I park?
Our main parking lot is located between our building and our neighbor, the Post Office. You can enter it from in front of or behind the building. There are spots just for visitors on the row of parking spaces adjacent to the building. Once you have parked, you can enter the building through the covered entrance, and one of our greeters can direct you where you are going.
  • What style of music should I expect?
We seek to worship God in spirit and truth through a multigeneration worship service. Our music is a blend of traditional and modern hymns, and we are supported by a variety of instruments from guitars to orchestra.
  • What will my kids do?
During Sunday School, we have a class for every age. Nursery and preschool (through age 5) are located in rooms on Level 3. During the worship service, our nursery is for children through age 3. All other children are invited to worship with their families. About half-way through the service, we have a children's sermon for kids of all ages. Following that, kids age 4 through 1st grade are invited to attend a children's worship service that meets in the Chapel (on Level 3 near the nursery).
