Parent Check-In!

We can all agree that 2020 has been a tough year! It’s been especially tough on families with school-age children. We want to check-in with our Moms and Dads and see how they are coping with the challenges of this year. This 4-8 minute survey looks specifically at how the parent and children are doing in areas like health, faith, relationships, and finances. It will give our church leaders a pulse on how parents are feeling about the prospect of their kids attending in-person ministry programming at the church and allows parents to indicate what they currently need from the church in terms of support. Moms and Dads, take a few minutes and “check-in”: https://assessments.gloo.us/a/RGVwbG95bWVudENvbmZpZ3wxNzUxMjI5OTU4NTM2MDM4MDEy

It was a blessing and a highlight of 2020 to have children back in Sunday School! Teachers were excited to be back, and children were excited to see one another and their teachers. It was also Promotion Sunday, so children and youth moved into their new rooms. Then, Candy Beggs presented new Bibles to the first graders during the worship service. It is always a special moment to see kids’ faces light up as they receive a copy of God’s Word. We are thankful for our teachers and many families that brought their children this past Sunday!

Please be in prayer for Upward basketball. There are many contingencies if a 2020-2021 season will be possible. I have already been in discussion with a regional Upward representative and am currently going through resources I received this week from Upward and a local high school basketball coach. If there is a league, I know we will need extra volunteers for referees, coaches, and safety/security to maintain social distance during practices and game days. The heartbeat of Upward is committed volunteers and during a pandemic, it will require more, not less. Please contact me if you can help or know someone that can. -Ben

Sunday, August 23

We will observe the Lord’s Supper and a benevolence offering will be received. We will be using prepackaged Lord’s Supper elements that will be pre-placed in the pews.

We are looking for a few more people to add to our group of amazing Sunday morning volunteers. Contact the church office if you are interested in being a part of our Worship Tech Team, serving in the nursery, or serving in Children's Church.

Pastor David will spend the next four months prayer driving our community. His goal is to drive past the house of every resident church member and pray for them specifically. Pastor David would love to know specific prayer needs to pray for and would be willing to pray with anyone who is interested (while social distancing of course). Simply email him or text him your prayer requests and whether you’d like him to stop at your house, or give you a call, to pray with you.

You can email Pastor David at dlambert@fbcthomson.org or text him at 706-699-3927.

The rest of this month, Pastor David will be prayer driving southwest Thomson and McDuffie County (using Warrenton Highway and Wrens Highway as boundaries) and the few church members’ homes in Warren County.

Watch the Cornerstone and Enewsletter for future areas our pastor will be prayer driving. And let us all “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (Ephesians 6:18).

We are very excited to be offering our LILY Moms ministry again this fall. LILY Moms is a welcoming, faith-based group seeking to support and equip moms with children between pregnancy and Kindergarten as we navigate the path of motherhood. If you are looking for encouragement, friendship, and lots of fun then LILY Moms is for you! Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, LILY Moms will look a little different this year. We will not be offering childcare and we will be moving our meetings to Saturday mornings. We are excited about this move to Saturday because it opens the ministry up to more of our working moms. We have also pushed our start date back to Saturday, October 3.

Meetings: We will meet on 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from October through May, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We talk with other moms who may be in the midst of the same struggles. We discuss topics relevant to life and motherhood. We do creative activities, schedule playdates. laugh, share, and hopefully, we build lifelong friendships along the way.

Cost: The annual cost is $40 and covers dues and a prepackaged breakfast. The fee is due prior to the first meeting on October 3. Need-based scholarships are available upon request.

If you have questions or are interested in joining our LILY Moms leadership team or signing up to participate please contact Summer McDonald in the church office.

Thanks to the generosity of our congregation we have been able to show love to our neighbors in McDuffie County this week in tangible ways. Our staff delivered meals and cards of thanks/encouragement to local law enforcement and donated school supplies to Thomson Elementary School.

Help us spread the word about our wonderful preschool ministry! Cornerstone Preschool Registration for the 2020-2021 school year is still open! You can mail in your applications or drop them by the church. Our preschool director, Kori Langham, is available to answer any questions you may have.

Let us know you are coming! We need you to register for worship if you plan on attending in person. You can register online at www.fbcthomson.org or you can call the church office to make a reservation. This will help us plan more effectively and have enough overflow seating set up in the Fellowship Hall if necessary. We will continue to offer online services via live-streaming if you are unable to attend or don't feel comfortable attending in-person services yet. We look forward to worshiping in person and continuing to worship online with you!

While on campus we ask that you practice all safety guidelines. Make every effort to keep you, your family, and our church family safe. We encourage you to wear a mask, wash your hands, practice social distancing, and if you or someone in your family doesn't feel well please stay home. Please be diligent about your health and ours.

While we are in uncertain financial times, it is as important as ever for us to trust in God’s providential care and to give so that the Kingdom’s work can continue. We are still doing ministry, supporting missions, helping with disaster relief, and we still have bills and staff to pay. We encourage you to mail or drop by the church office your tithe and gifts. We also have online giving available on our website and via the Realm Connect app.

As we near the end of Amos, we see the struggles the prophet endures as he not only preaches an unpopular message to Israel and its king but as he prays on their behalf for God to be merciful. Amos models the very role Jesus plays as our Mediator before God. This sermon will help us prepare to observe the Lord’s Supper. Come prepared to eat at the Lord’s table together.

Join us in person, listen on WTHO 101.7 FM, or watch our live-stream online.
