September 10 - Happening This Week

Inside: Celebration, Cornerstone, Mission Georgia, Masks, Pastor's Prayer Drive, Backpacks, and LILY Moms

This is a copied-and-pasted version of our weekly email. If you would like to receive this information by email, please use the "Subscribe" button in the bottom menu.

We have a lot to celebrate this week at FBC Thomson! Our weekday preschool program started back this week, we were able to share God's love with our community by delivering a pallet of water to Thomson High School, and we got to start in-person Wednesday night activities for children, youth, and adults. Praise be to God for time to worship, serve, and fellowship with one another!

We are having a wonderful first week back at Cornerstone Preschool! We've loved having the building filled with laughter and happiness from our students again. Thank you for your continued prayers and support of our preschool ministry!

Georgia Baptists are challenged to provide 25,000 backpacks for children in Appalachia and Georgia this year.  Our church has a goal of 75 backpacks that are fully packed.  You are challenged to donate one or more packed backpacks.  For more information and a packing list click here

The Mission: Georgia Offering and Week of Prayer were retooled by the Georgia Baptist Mission Board last year to focus the efforts of Georgia Baptists on five key areas of need: Human Trafficking, Pre/Post Natal Care, Childhood Literacy, Refugee and International needs, and Foster Care/Adoption. The goal of this offering is to mobilize churches like ours to shine a light on these five areas of darkness in Georgia. By joining together with other Baptist churches across Georgia, we are giving to, serving, and loving the most vulnerable among us throughout the year. I hope you will use the prayer guide insert to join us September 13-20 to pray for these efforts, and consider giving extra toward this important offering this month. Our church's goal is $4,000.

Pastor David will spend the next four months prayer driving our community. His goal is to drive past the house of every resident church member and pray for them specifically. Pastor David would love to know specific prayer needs to pray for and would be willing to pray with anyone who is interested (while social distancing of course). Simply email him or text him your prayer requests and whether you’d like him to stop at your house, or give you a call, to pray with you.

You can email Pastor David at dlambert@fbcthomson.org or text him at 706-699-3927.

Next week, Pastor David will be prayer driving Belle Meade.

Watch the Cornerstone and Enewsletter for future areas our pastor will be prayer driving. And let us all “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (Ephesians 6:18).

LILY Moms is a welcoming, faith-based group seeking to support and equip moms with children between pregnancy and Kindergarten as we navigate the path of motherhood. If you are looking for encouragement, friendship, and lots of fun then LILY Moms is for you!

Meetings: We will meet on 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from October through May, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We talk with other moms who may be in the midst of the same struggles. We discuss topics relevant to life and motherhood. We do creative activities, schedule playdates, laugh, share, and hopefully, we build lifelong friendships along the way.

Cost: The annual cost is $40 and covers dues, activity supplies, and a prepackaged breakfast. The fee is due prior to the first meeting on October 3. Need-based scholarships are available upon request.

Please wear a mask when entering and exiting the church building on Sundays and Wednesdays. Wearing a mask is a simple way to show our neighbors we love them. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

-Philippians 2:3-4

While we are in uncertain financial times, it is as important as ever for us to trust in God’s providential care and to give so that the Kingdom’s work can continue. We are still doing ministry, supporting missions, helping with disaster relief, and we still have bills and staff to pay. We encourage you to mail or drop by the church office your tithe and gifts. We also have online giving available on our website and via the Realm Connect app.

Last week, Pastor David began a new sermon series on Psalm 23: A Psalm for All Seasons helping us see how God is our Good Shepherd who is there for us in every season of life. This week we’ll learn how God meets the deepest needs of our tired, worn-out souls. Join us this Sunday as we find rest and refreshment in Jesus! Join us in person, listen on WTHO 101.7 FM, or watch our live-stream online.
